Canada Express Entry- Year End Report 2016 by IRCC

Canada has become a trending immigration destination today- thanks to the Canada Express Entry system. This system has become the most convenient platform for skilled workers to make their permanent place in Canada. Through this very unbiased and unprejudiced selection system, each year Canada invites a huge number of skilled professionals with interest, skills, and caliber that is highly needed by the Canadian economy.  Each year, IRCC, the Department that manages the Canada Express Entry and PR visa applications releases a detailed analysis of candidates that have been invited to Canada on PR visa through various programs for the year. On April 26, 2017, IRCC published its Express Entry Year End Report for 2016 and here’s what it says.

More Number of candidates from outside Canada received ITA; highest being the Indians

Among the total number of ITAs issued in 2016, a majority were granted to Indians. Around one in three candidates invited for Canada PR visa were Indians- indicating the maple country’s increasingly strong relationship with India. Not just this, but Indians also happened to receive ITAs in a number much larger than the previous year. The total number of ITAs issued to Indian nationals in 2015 was 6,348 whereas in 2016 over 10,499 Indian professionals were invited for Canadian Permanent Residency.

Besides, professionals in marketing, public relations, advertising, financial auditors/accountants, University professors and lecturers etc. were also among the top choices.

Higher percentage of candidates without a job offer were invited

The report amazes us by highlighting the fact that in 2016 a larger number of candidates without a job offer received ITA than those with a valid job offer in hand. It is believed that Canada is more focused on core human factors for PR, and for which it has made several changes to the Express Entry system in November 2016. As per the graphical representation- 65% of candidates with a job offer received an ITA in the first quarter of 2016, gradually declining to 34%, 38% and 12% during the year end.

Alberta, Ontario & British Columbia remain the popular destinations

During the year 2016, candidates on a larger scale were invited to Canada through the Provincial Nominee Programs. Over 4,259 invitees had a Provincial nomination certificate- which accounted over 26% of the total invites. While in 2015, only a 13% of candidates of candidates with PNP certificate were chosen for Canada PR invitation. By this, it is very evident that PNPs have become a more important factor over time. Some of the provinces that were considered best immigration destinations of Canada for 2016 are:

  • Alberta
  • British Columbia
  • Manitoba
  • New Brunswick
  • Newfoundland
  • Northwest Territories
  • Nova Scotia
