End of January 2018- Canada Provinces Update

Posted on February 1, 2018

The first month of 2018 has witnessed a good activity of the Canadian provincial nominee programs. Various provinces and their streams opened enthusiastically and gave way for eligible skilled workers to get nominated. Here’s what happened in Provincial Immigration programs of Canada during the second fortnight of January 2018.

New Brunswick Program

The New Brunswick Program temporarily reopened its Express Entry aligned Labour Market Stream on January 30. This stream specifically targets 10 priority occupations among which are Software Engineers and designers, information systems analysts and consultants, Computer network technician, Database analysts and data administrators, Computer programmers and interactive media developers, Cooks, Restaurant and food service managers, Accounting technicians and bookkeepers, Managers in health care and Retail sales supervisors.

Ontario Provincial Nominee Program

During the start of 2018, Ontario announced an increased number of nominations for the year. It said that nearly 6,600 candidates would be nominated this year. No sooner than this announcement, there was news of the opening of its popular Express Entry Human Capital Priorities stream along with seven other streams. On January 22, Ontario Express Entry Human Capital Priorities Streams issued 340 NOIs to eligible candidates in the Federal Express Entry Pool. Again, on January 26, new NOIs were issued to more candidates under the same stream.

On January 29, Ontario reopened its Masters Graduate Stream and PhD Graduate Stream. Under these streams candidates with no job offer and eligible skills can apply for nomination. Since these streams work on a first come first serve basis, the limit of intake is often reached quickly. While the Masters Graduate Stream closed within an hour of its opening, the PhD Graduate Stream is still open to applications.

Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program

Like other provincial nominee programs of Express Entry, Manitoba runs at an equal pace. In January 2018, the new Express Entry aligned stream Manitoba Express Entry Pathway invited its first set of candidates. Nearly 155 candidates received their provincial nomination in this first-ever draw.
