Express Entry 2018 was big, & in 2019 it will be bigger!

The Year 2018 performed outstandingly for the Canada Express Entry System, and it is expected that the coming year 2019 to be more successful Express Entry Draws.

For the year 2018, Canada’s three Federal High Skilled immigration programs which are managed by the Express Entry received nearly 89,900 Invitations to Apply (ITA). This is a huge record, and it is predicted that the year 2018 will beat the ITA count of the year 2017, i.e., 86,800 ITAs.

Under the Multi-year Immigration Plan, nearly 6,500 Invitations to Apply (ITA) are set to increase in 2019, and another 4,400 invitations are set to get raised in 2020 for the three federal Express Entry Programs. Thereby for meeting this admission targets, the Federal Skilled Trade Class, Federal Skilled Worker Class and Canadian Experience Class have to increase their ITA issues.

Will, there be more Express Entry draws in 2019?

If the Canada Immigration aims to increase the ITAs count for 2019, then it is obvious that there will be more frequent draws with expanded draw sizes.

During the start of 2018, the increasing draw sizes began at 2,750 and then, they have got increased by 250 and 500 in every 2-3 months. And, the largest size was reached to 3,900 ITAs. This size is remaining stable from 5th September to the latest draw which was held on 19th December.

Since, the 19th Express Entry draw which was held immediately after one week of the Express Entry draw, there was a reduction in the minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) requirement. The score dropped to 439 from 445, and thus it remarked as the lowest minimum score of 2018.

An increase of PNP Nominations for 2019

In the year 2018, the rise in the number of Provincial Nominations was a key factor to Express Entry. The Provincial Nominee Program, commonly known as PNP has nine Canadian provinces and two territories involved. The PNP program nominates the eligible candidates for Canadian Permanent Residency.

However, some of the allocations are set for the “enhanced” provincial programs. This “enhanced” provincial nomination is a result for the candidate to receive an additional 600 points towards their ranking score. This increase in ranking score helps the candidates in receiving a guaranteed Invitation to Apply for Canada PR.

According to the statements of IRCC, during the starting eight months of the year, nearly 12%, i.e. 62,500 Express Entry ITAs were issued through provincial nomination, whereas during 2017, a total of 10% ITAs were issued to PNP nominees until the end of the year.

Likewise the Express Entry, PNP has even made a good increase in its admissions for the year 2018. Similarly, it is expected that there will be an increase of nearly 6,000 admissions for the year 2019.

For the coming years 2020 and 2021, the PNP aims to target an increase of nearly 30% of its 2018’s target – 55,000.

After considering the statistics, David Cohen, the senior partner with Campbell Cohen Canadian Immigration law firm stated that, “Express Entry really hit its stride in 2018 and the next 12 months should see it operating at an even higher capacity,” “Combined with the growing prominence of the PNP, the new year should be a significant one for Canada’s Express Entry system.”
