Flexible rules for post-grads on Canada study visa; working after study becomes easierPosted on February 16, 2019
Good news for post-graduates on Canada study visa, the Federal Government has relaxed rules that will allow them to work after completion of the study. Students opting for Canada immigration for higher qualification can now work any job, anywhere in the country for three years after they complete a degree or diploma for any Canadian University. It is considered to be the first step of receiving permanent residency in the country.
Before Feb 14th, the students had to apply within 90 days of completion of their study and need to have continuous education throughout their degree or diploma to get qualified for a work permit. But, as per the new change from the federal government, the students now can apply for their post-graduation work permit within 180 days after completion of their studies.
According to Melissa Payne, director of member services for the Canadian Bureau of International Education, this announcement will significantly help the international students traveling on study permit to Canada to gain valuable experience of working in Canada under Canadian employers.
Another critical problem that most students on Canada study visa have to face was the unavailability of time to keep-off education for some time to get medical treatment, plan a family or take care of sick family members. Discontinuing their study for a certain period made them ineligible for the work permit after completion of their post-graduation.
However, under the new rules passed for the post-graduate on study permit to Canada can only be actively persuading studies instead of continuously persuading studies to get the Post-Graduation work permit. The students can now stay off school or college on an approved leave from their institution and have to return to class within 150 days.
According to the published statistics by the IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) by the end of 2018 around 570,000 who opted for Canada Immigration had a valid Canada study visa and around 130,000 people had a valid Post-grad work permit. The new rules also manifested the different aspects of the work permit that allows the recent graduates to work while their application is getting processed.
