Huge number of Australian PR invitations were issued to IT professionals and Accountants- the SkillSelect Update

The results of the most recent draw of Australian Permanent Residency under the SkillSelect System conducted in May 2016 reflect that a huge number of Invitations were issued to IT professionals and Accountants. Sources reveal that while Invitations for Subclass 489 (Family sponsorship) remained static to 10 invitations each month since December 2015, the number of Invitations for Skilled Independent Subclass 189 has been significantly growing. As of the records, during the month of April about 2,200 Invitations for Skilled Independent Subclass 189 were issued overall whereas, in May the number exceeded expectations and increased to 2,435, with a majority of them being issued to IT professionals and Accountants.

With this increase, the following occupations have reached the ceiling and have been closed till July 1, 2016.

  1. 2211 – Accountants
  2. 2212 – Auditors, Company Secretaries and Corporate Treasures
  3. 2335 – Industrial, Mechanical and Production Engineers
  4. 2339 – Other Engineering Professionals
  5. 2611 – ICT Business and Systems Analysts
  6. 2613 – Software and Applications Programmers
  7. 2631 – Computer Network and Systems Engineers

However, while these occupations have been currently closed till July, 2016 they have not been removed from the Skilled Occupational List. Professionals covering any of these occupations will no longer receive invitations for these occupations till July1, 2016 but if they wish to, they can apply for State Nominated Skilled Visas.​
