The recent figures show that students migrating to the UK for higher studies have doubled in the past 3 years. During March 2019, nearly 21,000 Indian students received the UK student visas.
Considering this interest of Indian students in the UK migration, the British Government is currently working on increasing the duration of a Post-Study Work Permit. Authorities believe that this initiative will make the UK more attractive to international students worldwide.
With countries like Canada and Australia introducing easier study and immigration policies, the UK had seen a drastic decrease in the student’s preference for higher studies. Moreover, the United Kingdom termination its Post-Study Work Permit for international students in 2011. This also led to a decrease in the number of applications for a few years.
However, in the past year, the United Kingdom recorded a 40% increase in Indian students migrating to the country for their higher education. According to the Dominic Asquith, British High Commissioner, 96% of all submitted applications from India were successful.
Aiming to increase the overseas student numbers, the country is focused on improving the opportunities. Hence, it plans to increase the during of Post-Study Work Permit from 4 months to 12 months.
A campaign called “Get Ready for Class” is also being launched by the British Government in next month. This campaign aims at the encouragement of foreign students to apply for their visa early and help them with their application process.
