Ontario’s initiative to improve processing time

Posted on January 13, 2017

As Ontario lacks skilled talent, the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program was made a part of the Provincial Nominee Programs of the Express Entry System. Through this program, applicants with skills needed most by the province are offered a nomination to settle in Ontario and this nomination would eventually enhance their CRS score for the PR process. Since the introduction of the OINP, Ontario has been a popular choice among people seeking to settle in Canada.

On January 12, 2017, the provincial government posted a statement on its website:

‘The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) has fulfilled its 2016 federal nomination allocation. The OINP will continue to process applications. Any additional nominations will go towards Ontario’s 2017 allocation. The OINP will continue to introduce online application systems in 2017 to make it easier for clients to apply and improve processing times.’
This initiative to introduce more online application system is in line with the latest trends in Canadian immigration at the Federal and Provincial levels. In May 2016, the OINP announced that is temporarily pausing the intake of applications under certain streams. On examining the nature of this temporary pause, associated sources confirmed that these streams will reopen or launch again in the coming days.
