Quebec to start new immigration system from August 2018

Posted on July 7, 2018

The Immigration Minister of Quebec, David Heurtel tweeted that his ministry is in all plans to implement the recently announced new immigration regulations from August 2, 2018. This statement was retweeted by  Ministère de l’Immigration, et de la Diversité et de l’Inclusion (MIDI), the government body managing Quebec immigration.

In his tweet, the Minister states that this new system is designed to decrease processing times and help the province of Quebec maximize the potential of the immigration system as a driver for economic growth in the province. This system shall replace both the Mon Projet Quebec application portal and first-come first-serve submission system with an Expression of Interest based system.

Also, this revised system is an initiative to cut down the long processing time. Earlier in May, the Minister to the TVA Nouvelles said “the province intends to reduce processing times for economic immigration applications to less than 12 months”. According to the new system, prospective immigrants intending for a Canada permanent through Quebec immigration will undergo the below process:

  • Check eligibility and points
  • Submission Expression of Interest
  • Get selected and receive an Inviatation to Apply for Québec Selection Certificate (Certificat de sélection du Québec, or CSQ)
  • Submit application for CSQ MIDI
  • Submit federal portion of the application upon receiving CSQ

MIDI stated that information pertaining to the eligibility criteria, points structure, how EOI system would work etc, will be shared soon. Stay tuned to our news section to receive an update of Quebec new immigration system upon its release.
