Quebec to welcome up to 44,500 more immigrants in 2020 as Permanent Residents

Quebec’s Immigration Minister has made an announcement of issuing 44,500 permanent residency statuses and 24,700 selection criteria’s for new immigrants. The minister further adds that, the increase in the targets is in response to the Quebec’s labour market needs.

Among the new admissions in 2021, 59 percent of them are expected to be from Quebec Skilled Worker Program (QSWP). The 2020 target is an increase of 2,700 from this year target.  However, the Coalition Avenir Quebec or the CAQ is promising to increase the immigration levels for coming future.

Simon Jolin – Barrette, the Quebec’s Minister further stated that, the level of immigration could increase to more than 50,000 by 2022.

About 22,000 admissions for skilled professional in 2020

The immigration government of Quebec has set its new admissions between the ranges of 25,500 to 26,300 for its economic immigration programs. And, within these, about 22,000 are included for skilled workers.

About 3,600 admissions belong for business immigration programs including Quebec Entrepreneur Program and Quebec Self-Employed Worker Program. Up to 700 admissions will be relating to the other categories like caregivers and others.

And, the rest 18,200 permanent residents will be issued to candidates through family sponsorship, refugee and other immigration programs.
