Special Nova Scotia Scheme launched for DoctorsPosted on February 23, 2018
There is good news for medical professionals willing to settle in the east coast province of Nova Scotia. The province launched a new stream exclusively for doctors under its provincial nominee program (PNP). With effect from February 22, 2018 a new stream named the Physician Stream will help doctors with a valid job offer from a Nova Scotia health organization in getting nominated for their extra ordinary skills and claiming points.
About the Physician Stream
With the introduction of the Physician stream, doctors aiming for Canada immigration will be able to speed up their immigration process and become Canadian PRs faster. The major criteria to process an application under Physician Stream of Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP) is to have a job offer positioned as a Physician from organizations of Nova Scotia Health Authority (NSHA) or IWK Health Centre. Both these organizations require potential employees to be screened for eligibility in order to practice their expertise in Nova Scotia. Only if a person is declared potential immigrant by NSHA or the IWK through the hiring process can apply for licensure with College of Physicians and Surgeons of NS and thereafter practice in the province.
Also, the job offer must be under the National Occupation Classification code (NOC code); 3112 or 3111.

Just like any streams associated with a provincial nominee program (PNP) of Canada Express Entry, the Physician Stream too gives eligible applicants an additional score on their profile. The applicant submits an online application using the NSNP web portal. On acceptance of the application, he or she receives a provincial nomination along with a temporary work permit support letter. This enables the applicants to apply for a temporary work permit while their PR application is in process.
Eligibility Criteria to apply for the new stream
“The Physician Stream is only open to general practitioners and family physicians (NOC 3112) and specialist physicians (NOC 3111) with signed approved opportunities with the Nova Scotia Health Authority or the IWK Health Centre– as quoted by the official site of Nova Scotia Immigration.
The candidate must adhere to the following aspects:
- Must be signed and authorized by a signatory to hire physicians at the NHSA or IWK
- Application must be signed by applicant who is accepting the opportunity
- The applicant must be eligible to licensure with College of Physicians and Surgeons of NS
- The application must indicate eligibility to apply for privileges and credentials with NSHA and the IWK
