Many Indians residing in US constantly face visa related issues. Considering the same, the Indian Embassy conducted its first ‘open-house’ in US. The objective of this initiative was to endeavor and deal with the community’s issues related to passport, visas and OCI (Overseas Citizens of India) cards. Navtej Sarna, the new Indian Emissary to the US announced this initiative in his inaugural address to Indian Americans gathered at his honor event, organized last month.

The open house achieved expected outcome. Sources reveal that despite circulating the notice within a short period of time and poor climatic issues, various applicants showed up for the event in Washington. Each applicant was given personal attention and their concerns were addressed by Superior Officers.

Open houses have now been organized at different Indian Consulates in United States- major of which are based in Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, New York, San Francisco etc. Furthermore, it has been decided that the Embassy and its consulates shall organize similar open houses in their locations each fortnight.
